Artificial Intelligence engineers are responsible for developing, programming and training complex networks of algorithms that make up an AI. This role requires combined expertise in software development, programming, data science and data engineering.

Artificial intelligence developers identify and source data from a variety of sources to develop and test machine learning models. They may utilise application programming interfaces (APIs) or embedded code to build and implement AI-powered applications.

AI engineers build, test and deploy artificial intelligence models. Though this career is related to data engineering, AI engineers rarely write the code that translates to scalable data sharing. Some of the duties of an AI engineer include:

• Coordinating with professionals like programmers, coders, data scientists and other stakeholders

• Designing and managing the AI development process and overall infrastructure of a product

• Conducting statistical analysis and interpreting results to guide an organisation's decision-making process

• Automating important functions and processes for a data science team

• Developing infrastructure for data transformation

• Building AI models

• Explaining the usefulness of the AI models they create to a wide range of individuals within the organisation, including stakeholders and product managers

• Transforming machine learning models into APIs that other applications can interact with.
